Lucas Christopher

I know this post is hugely overdue!  The last month of my pregnancy was a little stressful and we had a lot of things going on between doctor’s appointments and Hailey.

Lucas Christopher came screaming into the world on June 7th, weighing in at 7lbs 3oz and 19 inches long.  (crazy thing, him and Hailey have almost identical birth stats)  I was induced that morning due to some increased pressures in the umbilical cord.  Luckily, I was already being monitored by the perinatologist otherwise they never would have caught this!  (I’ll spare all of you the details of my dramatic pregnancy)
As far as inductions go, I think it went pretty fast.  Meds were started at 1220 and he came at 9pm!  Compared to Hailey’s delivery, it was pretty easy.  I only pushed for 45 minutes.  I did have some complications during labor, but nothing that affected the dude, so we pushed forward (minus a c-section) and everything turned out fabulous!

I hate comparing him to Hailey, but it is so hard not too.  He was born with a full head of black hair and brown eyes – Hailey bald and blue.  He was born to breastfeed – Hailey was putsy and we had to work at it.  He is a great sleeper – Hailey nursed every 2 hours for the first month!  He is perfectly content with laying on the floor on a blanket – Hailey needed to be held.  He has settled out eating every 3-4 hours at 2 weeks old – again Hailey didn’t go for a 4 hour stretch without eating until she was 3 months old!

The biggest difference is the kid is a noisy sleeper.  And when I say noisy, I mean NOISY.  (Hailey you had a make sure she was still breathing because she was so quiet).  During naps in the afternoon, it often sounds like there is a goose in the living room!  Over night, he makes these horrific breathing noises—luckily I’m used to them now.  While I am feeding him, Lucas makes a noise with every breath, making his Daddy wonder what the heck is going on.  Through all of the noises though, he is sleeping away!

Speaking of Hailey, she is a great big sister.  She likes to help with diaper changes- she gets the diaper and wipes ready.  Chris got her a step stool so she can see what’s going on on the changing table.  She actually gets upset if you are changing his diaper and don’t tell her!  Smile

We are adjusting pretty well (at least I think) to being a family of 4.  Chris traveled for the first time last week.  I had one rough evening where Hailey was being sassy and Lucas needed to eat while Hailey was eating dinner and had a meltdown because I wasn’t sitting next to her.  Luckily, my Mom came over after work and diverted her attention and gave her a shower for me.  Most of Hailey’s adjustments have been being “ok” while Daddy is gone.  He was home for 3 weeks (longest stretch in 10 years!), so when he left and it was just me and the kids (I love saying “the kids”) she was a emotional and sassy.  After 2 days, she was a lot better.

Because he goes longer stretches between eating, it is a lot easier to get out of the house.  I still haven’t gotten the guts to go grocery shopping with just the 2 kids, but sooner or later I will have to!  Chris is home all of next week, so I have at least another week before I have to face that hurdle.

Hailey turned 2 on June 1st!  Because I was 9 months pregnant, we just had parents/grandparents over for cake and a little grilling action.

This is Hailey's baby that she got when she visited the hospital.  We were changing Lucas and Hailey whipped off her baby's diaper and ran to the bathroom to put her on the potty!

Hailey just got up from her nap and wanted to snuggle with her brother.  She does a great job!

  1. It is so funny to read your stories about Hailey because it is pretty much my life with Shelby. So you are not alone! Hugs.
